Our Review of Standard Dose CBD Oil

August 28, 2022

What we think:

Standard Dose is one of those companies that I’m a total sucker for. Elegant and sophisticated products give off an air of luxury, perfect for displaying on a nightstand or bathroom shelf to fool people into thinking you’re the kind of put-together person who has a ten-step skincare routine. The kind of products that give you a fleeting sense of control over the roller coaster of life. May our Himalayan salt lamps light the way.

Standard Dose has a dazzling assortment of CBD products, but the only CBD product it actually manufactures itself is the Standard Dose Tincture. Containing just two ingredients: CBD and coconut oil (MCT), it is, in fact, a standard, flavorless CBD tincture, but this is a good thing, (especially after Ignite’s enigmatic and elusive ingredient lists for its CBD Drops). Considering the lack of regulation on CBD products, simplicity is reassuring.

One of the most delightful things about CBD tinctures that use MCT as their carrier oil, is that over time, the MCT starts to turn pink – For companies trying to burgeon their way into the green rush, a product that turns millennial pink must be too good to be true.

And clearly that’s who Standard Dose is targeting – the copy on the page for the Standard Dose Tincture suggests using it as a complement to avocado toast.

Standard Dose’s tincture contains 1000mg of CBD isolate, meaning that the tincture doesn’t contain other cannabinoids and terpenes, which, when present, produce what’s called the “entourage effect”, helping one another to work synergistically to maximize the benefits of CBD and other cannabinoids. Depending on what you’re looking for, this may check all the right boxes, or it may be a deal-breaker.

Like many of its featured products, Standard Dose’s website seems intentionally minimalistic. It’s refreshing considering all of the buzzwords and confusing vernacular currently floating around about CBD. And while the site isn’t bogged down with CBD ‘specs’, Standard Dose’s Customer Service Team were more than happy to provide some extra info when we reached out to them.

When asked about the extraction method, they happily informed me that the hemp oil was extracted via cryo-ethanol using organic, food-grade ethanol, which is considered to be a great method in terms of isolating ‘the good stuff’.

But overall, I find that the tincture does what it says it will. A dropper full under the tongue for several days makes me feel substantially calmer and more centered. I’m not supposed to have caffeine, but one day I order a chai because I’m here for a good time not a long time – until I’m driving home and can feel every cell in my body vibrating.

I take some of the CBD tincture and while I definitely still don’t get to bed at a reasonable hour that night, I do notice a substantial reduction in my caffeine-induced anxiety and tremors, which is pretty exciting because it’s the first time a CBD product has produced a physical result.

Also, the tincture has turned a wonderful shade of light pink and looks really nice on my bathroom shelf.
